Dear readers, family, friends, distant relations, partners and other interested visitors of this blog,

Welcome to an exciting journey that we are about to embark upon together! This summer, our group is heading to the captivating land of Malawi, where we hopefully will be making a difference in the lives of the local community. Through this blog, we aim to share our experiences, challenges, and triumphs as we contribute to meaningful projects and immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of this beautiful country.

 Who are we?

Allow us to introduce our team, a group of individuals with varied interests and expertise. What unites us is our shared passion for making a difference. Each of us brings a unique perspective and valuable skills to our collective mission.

  • David: With a background in Bioscience Engineering, specializing in Environmental Technology, David brings a deep understanding of sustainable practices and environmental conservation. His expertise will play a vital role in our efforts to promote eco-friendly solutions and the making of compost, a crucial aspect of organic waste management and soil enrichment.

  • Hanne: As a Civil Engineering Technologist, Hanne possesses a wealth of knowledge in construction and infrastructure development. Her skills will prove invaluable as we build cooking stoves.

  • Manon: Manon’s studies in Business Engineering provide a valuable perspective on project management and strategic planning. Her expertise will help us ensure the long-term viability and success of the currently struggling mango drying plant.

  • Bram: Studying Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Bram brings a strong technical background and problem-solving skills. His expertise will be crucial at the installation of the solar panels.

Together, as a team of prospective engineers, we are excited to combine our knowledge and skills to tackle the pressing issues we will encounter in Malawi. We are confident that our diverse backgrounds and shared dedication will enable us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the local community.

Of course, this project would not be possible without the experienced help of our partner Chabwino. They are are an enthusiastic non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development in Malawi.

What will we do?

During our time in Malawi, we will be engaged in a variety of impactful projects aimed at improving the lives of the local community. Here are some of the initiatives we will be undertaking:

Installing Solar Panels: One of our primary objectives is to bring clean and sustainable energy to the community. We will be installing a solar panel system on a local school, providing them with a reliable source of electricity.

Building wood-efficient Cooking Stoves: Recognizing the high cost of wood in the region, we will be building wood-efficient cooking stoves for the community. These stoves are designed to maximize heat efficiency and reduce wood consumption.

Revitalize an existing mango drying plant: Currently, the plant is not operating to its full potential and has not gained much traction. Our team aims to bring about transformative changes by reimagining the mango drying process and implementing innovative strategies.

Education: Education is a vital aspect of community development. We will actively engage with local schools and community centers to provide educational support, conduct workshops, and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions.

Through these diverse initiatives, our team aims to create a lasting positive change in Malawi. We are excited to collaborate with the local community, learn from their wisdom, and together, build a brighter future.

Stay tuned as we document our journey, sharing the stories, challenges, and triumphs that unfold along the way in our upcoming blog posts!

Sending warm wishes,

David, Hanne, Manon and Bram
