Join the journey of Hope for girls and women: Where it all began

Dear Hope Supporters,

It all started in the beginning of October 2023, the teams of project students were introduced to each other and their project. Full of excitement we started the journey of making this assignment into a finished project together. The first few weeks consisted of contacting our Tanzanian partner Rhobi (shown in the picture below), getting to know each other and the project more and forming a general view of the tasks ahead of us. We also focused on identifying the problems the organization Hope for girls and women faces. We did this by watching their documentary among other things. We really recommend you all watch it yourselves as well, it is named ‘In The Name of Your Daughter’.

In the months that followed, a detailed literature study was carried out to expand our knowledge of a PV installation and all its different components. In the second semester all the final components in the system were selected and the search for a good supplier began, and with that a more detailed view on the budget was obtained. We also followed along for a day with a real life solar panel installer to obtain a more practical view.

In a Humasol project, not only the technical aspects of the project are considered but also the social and economic aspects as well as follow up. A business plan is worked out to ensure Hope has the resources to replace the components after break down. The economic plan consists of the ability to rent out rechargeable lamps at the local market to other vendors. This ensures lights at the market as well as a new income source for the community of Hope. For the social part of the project workshops will be prepared regarding safety, the working principle of solar panels and electricity and making well informed business decisions. 

Our project preparations have almost come to an end and all that is left to do now is patiently counting down to departure… still 44 days left, so exciting!!
