Gitaru Marigu

2026

Kenia

The project is situated in a remote rural area near Oyugis, Kenya, in collaboration with the Gitaru Marigu Self-Help Development Group. This is a community-based organization that aims to support community members who are vulnerable for several reasons. The organization provides financial and material support to children in need, initiates and enhances educational programs for children, and assists caregivers in accessing capital and acquiring the basic skills necessary to generate income. To help generate income, the community is keeping bees and selling their products.

Our project objective is to provide sustainable energy and a reliable water source for the community resource center, during all seasons. This will be done by installing a submersible solar pump in an existing shallow water well, alongside a PV system. Solar energy will be used in the processing of honey and beeswax products in the resource center, as well as a lighting system and wiring to the center and 6 neighboring homes.

The development of sustainable and safe clean water will support the community in times of drought, for domestic use, and to irrigate 2 acres of an orchard farm used by the community.
