Solar pump and irrigation system

2016

Benin

In Benin there are two climates on average, including a very dry period. Many families in Benin rely on their own local harvest. These dry periods therefore cause major problems and rising prices. Many local farmers lack the knowledge about keeping chickens and goats, and growing vegetables.

In 2015, the Hubi & Vinciane foundation started a model farm in the Parakou region. In this way, farmers and families in need are given the opportunity to learn about sustainable vegetable cultivation and solutions for the dry season. In order to support the operation of this farm, Humasol will help set up an irrigation system based on solar energy. In this way, the demonstration fields are supplied with water and, using this system, knowledge about irrigation options can also be transferred to the local population. In this way, the local population learns to deal efficiently with the available water. Since the electrical grid in Parakou is not reliable, Humasol provides another way to meet the energy needs. Solar energy is the best solution in the region. The installation is made together with the local population in a way that it is maintainable and understandable for local interested parties.
