Solar dryer for coffee beans

2017

Peru

The price that Peruvian coffee farmers receive for their coffee beans is determined by their quality. Due to a very low quality, many poor farmers have a low income. After the harvest period, the moisture of the beans must decrease. At present, this is done by placing the beans in the sun, which has many disadvantages that greatly affect the quality of the beans, and therefore also the income.

These disadvantages can be prevented by building a small, cheap solar dryer. In addition, the farmer will also have to invest less time in the drying process. He no longer has to rush outside every rain shower or cover the beans every evening. This will ensure that the quality of the beans will increase, which will give the farmer higher income. A construction is being devised that can be stored in the winter, so that the materials of the solar dryer will last longer. In addition, space is freed up, which is important for the farmers, since they have little surface area. The farmer can then use this for other purposes.
