Waste Masters 2
2017
Uganda
The increased consumption of packaged products and plastic bags has led to increased waste production in many African countries. However, waste collection and the subsequent waste processing process are not adapted to this. For example, there is no adequate waste policy from the government, which causes a lot of waste to end up on the road or in the immediate vicinity of households. The result is an increased risk of diseases, environmental pollution and loss of valuable material.
Many companies in Uganda already realize that recycling can be profitable. However, their clients lack the knowledge and willingness to sort. Humasol will support this project both technically and socio-economically. The latter aspect, which is carried out by Waste Masters 1, aims to raise awareness of the risks of waste, to bring stakeholders into contact with each other and to teach families to sort.
The technical support will ensure that companies learn more about composting the organic fraction, since this represents approximately 80% of the total waste. Compost is of direct importance to farmers. By processing nutrients back into the soil, the cycle can be closed.
