Kumdimba

2022

Malawi

Kudimba is a social support project that provides shelter for vulnerable children, youth and young adults who need extra help in their daily lives or have not had the opportunity to receive education. The project takes place in Lifuwu, right next to Lake Malawi. In this way, it creates an ideal environment where children can learn new skills and discover their qualities in order to later participate fully independently in society.

The project has been running for several years now and offers several teenagers a place where they can learn daily. However, to ensure the sustainability of the project in the long term, a consistent source of income is required. This is where we at Humasol are looking for a solution.

Our goal is to provide large parts of the shelter with sustainable energy, namely solar energy. Our main focus is on providing the communal house with electricity. This building consists of several rooms where guests can stay for a small fee. With this income, meals, medical bills and daily activities can be financed.

The guest rooms will be equipped with hot water and several power outlets to charge their electronic devices and thus guarantee basic comfort. Furthermore, part of the electricity will also be used to provide light during the evening and night. This will allow some activities to continue in the evening and will also guarantee the safety of the shelter. Finally, the current plans can also be expanded in the future to design a sustainable kitchen.
