Family hydro

2016

Peru

Many families in Peru do not have access to electricity. Nowadays, electricity can be considered a basic need. Therefore, there is a need for a cheap, simple and sustainable alternative for the local population in the South. For example, a regular lamp can give them the opportunity and comfort to read in the evening, do homework or do other tasks.

humasol wants to make it possible to provide remote areas, with an often spread out population, with electricity. This can be done by means of a 'family hydro'. This is a very small water turbine that produces a few hundred Watts of electricity. Little is needed to install and use this turbine. Spreading knowledge about this simple solution generates a technological and economic stimulus, which benefits the population. The focus on knowledge exchange during this project is certainly not a side issue. Firstly, the local user must carry out the maintenance and secondly, a future, local support base is created for further expansion and distribution of these hydros.
