Benin à bicyclette électrique
2017
Benin
Parakou is a city in Benin with very polluted air. The large number of polluting mopeds and the poor quality of petrol play an important role in this. The government obviously wants to do something about this and wants to try to reduce the number of mopeds as much as possible. However, for many people the moped is the best way to transport themselves and goods.
Since the moped is an important means of transport and keeps the local economy going, many Beninese people cannot simply leave it behind. A possible solution to reconcile the climate and mobility here is to introduce electric mopeds. After all, they do not emit anything and if the energy for these mopeds is generated in a green way, this reduces the impact on the environment even further. Humasol wants to start such a project in collaboration with African Drive, who have already successfully launched a bus company in Benin with Baobab Express. Humasol wants to work on designing a photovoltaic installation and installing it locally. African Drive will provide the economic expertise and local facilities to make this project a success. If this small-scale pilot project is well received, it will be expanded and hopefully result in a profitable and socially responsible company.
