Tent Of Nations

2025

Isreal

This Humasol project aims to achieve full water and energy self-sufficiency for Tent of Nations (ToN), an ecological family farm and educational center located near Bethlehem in Palestine. ToN annually hosts over 10,000 visitors and 200-300 international volunteers, offering workshops to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living.

Due to its vulnerable location, surrounded by Israeli settlements, ToN faces frequent risks of isolation, making independence in water and energy essential for survival. The project’s primary objectives are:

  1. Purifying Rainwater to Drinking WaterInstallation of a modern water purification system (using UV and membrane technology) to convert collected rainwater into high-quality drinking water, eliminating dependence on external sources.

  2. Purifying Wastewater for IrrigationImplementing wastewater recycling to substantially reduce water consumption. Treated wastewater will primarily be used for irrigation, with potential future use in toilets or other applications based on quality.

    Additional water management improvements include:

    • Increasing water storage capacity

    • Expanding rooftop rainwater collection systems

    • Regular monitoring of water quality

    • Optimizing water usage based on required water quality standards (e.g., non-potable water for toilets)

  3. Maintenance and Expansion of Solar EnergyUpgrading and expanding the existing solar panel installation from 2009 to power larger machinery (e.g., olive press), thereby fully replacing the costly diesel generator and meeting 100% of ToN’s energy needs sustainably.
