PV installation St. Joseph mission hospital
Design and construction of a sustainable and reliable PV-installation for a Kenyan hospital.
The Saint Joseph Mission Hospital, located in Nyabondo, Kenya, consists of a hospital ward (150 beds) and a medical school (400 students). They currently depend on the unstable public power grid. At the moment the hospital receives financial support from the government. Other profitable activities can be used to finance the project.
In consultation with the director, a PV installation seems to be the best solution to avoid blackouts in the critical areas of the hospital. This will guarantee a more independent operation of the hospital. The installation will happen in cooperation with local technicians of the hospital to ensure proper maintenance and possibly expansion of this installation. To support this project financially, there were different ideas such as an internet café and/or a barbershop. Which solution is going to be the most successful and profitable will depend on the needs of the community. These initiatives also offer a surplus value to the community and contribute to a better awareness of renewable energy. During the project preparation and execution, we will make decisions in close contact with the director.
