This project develops an efficient drying system for crops like rice, coffee, pepper, and macadamia nuts to improve quality and reduce drying time. In collaboration with Quy Nhon University, data from the system will be analysed to optimize performance and guide future innovations in agricultural drying technology.

St. Martin, a women- and youth-led organization in Kenya, empowers vulnerable families through education and sustainability projects. At Brilliant Star School, the team will install solar power to extend study hours and improve safety, along with a solar irrigation system to support year-round farming and provide nutritious meals for students.

This project, in collaboration with the University of Namibia’s Department of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, explores how aquaponics systems can thrive independently in rural desert areas. Using fog harvested from the nearby ocean as a water source, six students from KU Leuven and UNAM will design and test a small-scale purification system based on recent research by Professor Tamuka’s team.

At Ferme de Mass, a pedagogical farm near Dakar, the project aims to design and install a larger solar system to power refrigeration, water pumping, lighting, and aquaponics. Working with local students and partners, the initiative supports the farm’s goal of becoming more sustainable and self-sufficient while providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

The goal of this project is to develop a cost-effective drying machine for Black Soldier Fly larvae to provide a sustainable protein source for pig and poultry feed, improve farmers' income, reduce losses, and enable storage and transport without cooling, with adaptations for those without access to electricity.

The project, in collaboration with Butterfly Space Eco Lodge in Nkhata Bay, Malawi, aims to install two wind turbines at local schools, focusing on local material sourcing, community knowledge exchange, and providing renewable energy for lights and chargers, with the first turbine already confirmed and the second dependent on funding and time availability.

The project aims to establish a solar dryer station at the Jukia microstation in Nebbi, Uganda, to process coffee beans for Zombo Coffee, a company that supports local farmers while transitioning to organic farming by 2025-2026.

Ayonnah, founded by Marie-Claude from Benin, supports her community through the shared farm Mînwà, promoting health and local initiatives like honey production. Our team will install a solar-powered irrigation system to ensure sustainable water and energy supply for local families.

This summer, our team is traveling to Cochabamba, Bolivia, to support Maria Christina, a government-funded home for young people with mental and physical disabilities. In partnership with Niños con Alas, we will design and build a solar water-heating system to replace the home’s current cold-water showers, improving health in an affordable and sustainable way. We will also explore composting solutions that turn food waste and animal manure into natural fertilizer for the vegetable garden. Through these efforts, we aim to strengthen the home’s self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability.

In partnership with Onçafari, a Brazilian foundation for biodiversity and social development, Humasol will build a bamboo community center in the Pantanal, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. The project promotes bamboo as a sustainable local material, creating jobs, reviving traditional craftsmanship, and laying the groundwork for future community facilities.

Green Poultry Farm in Mozambique addresses poultry waste by developing anaerobic digesters that produce biogas and fertilizer while promoting sustainable farming. This year, our team will design and build a fixed digester with sensors, data processing, and an interactive interface to support local farmers and advance green poultry practices.

The project aims to enhance water availability for a village by installing solar panels with two pumps, a battery system, and PLC programming, while considering additional filtration and extra energy solutions, supported by Belgian automation engineer Herman Bruyndonckx and local partner Norberto Baten.

The project in Malawi aims to design a pilot irrigation system using a nearby river to enable a second harvest and expand to other villages, while addressing safety concerns, potential budget adjustments, and the need for sustainability and long-term benefits.

The project at Apida Medical Center in Homa-Bay County aims to implement a sustainable energy solution to address frequent power outages and ensure continuous, affordable healthcare services for women and children from low-income backgrounds as the hospital expands to 100 beds.

Emergi, a start-up in Monrovia, aims to make ride-hailing more sustainable and empower women drivers through a fleet of electric tuk-tuks charged by solar energy. The project focuses on increasing renewable power, improving charging efficiency and range, and exploring solutions like battery swapping and solar rooftops to enhance sustainability and economic viability.

Humasol, in collaboration with Safi vzw, is supporting the Seidemann Nursery School in Brikama (Gambia) with the renovation and expansion of its sanitation facilities. Six existing toilets will be replaced by EcoSan units, and four additional toilets will be built, along with a new water tank system and twenty handwashing stations. The team is also examining possibilities to repair the damaged solar installation and to add a backup water pump for irrigation. In this way, the project creates a safer, healthier, and more sustainable learning environment for children from vulnerable families.

This summer, our team is partnering with the Kudimba Foundation in Lifuwu, Malawi, to support Sandulika, a new initiative that empowers young adults with disabilities to live and work more independently. We will install a solar power system that provides clean, reliable electricity for housing and for income-generating activities such as tailoring, carpentry, and small-scale farming. In addition, we will test whether fruit waste from a nearby mango processing company can be turned into eco-friendly fuel briquettes, offering a sustainable alternative to charcoal and firewood. These efforts aim to strengthen Sandulika’s self-sufficiency while creating meaningful work opportunities and environmental benefits for the local community.

This project takes place in a remote rural area near Oyugis, Kenya, in partnership with the Gitaru Marigu Self-Help Development Group, which supports vulnerable families through education, income-generation, and beekeeping. Our goal is to provide sustainable energy and a reliable year-round water supply for the community resource center by installing a submersible solar pump in an existing well and adding a PV system. The solar energy will power honey and beeswax processing, as well as lighting for the center and six nearby homes. Access to clean, safe water will also help the community during droughts and enable irrigation of a two-acre orchard farm.

The project in the Mulanda area of Tororo district, Uganda, aims to develop sanitation facilities aligned with local needs, addressing toilet design, waste management options, hygiene education, and energy solutions.

The project in Kimbiri, Peru aims to create sustainable chocolate packaging from agricultural waste, meeting local production needs, food safety standards, and ensuring long-term use by locals, while addressing the region's climate and security challenges.
